Willow Smith releases new ‘Sugar and Spice’ ballad

By Sarah McClanahan,

Willow Smith, the 12-year-old singer and daughter of actor Will Smith, has gone a different route with her latest song “Sugar and Spice."

No hair whipping necessary when listening to this song. Smith’s music may well be heading in a different direction if this song is any indication of her future singles. The song is less angry and determined than “Whip My Hair” and rich with melancholy meaning as she repeats she feels she is “drowning” and is looking for “silence." The song reaches metaphorical masterpiece with lines such as “Inject my soul with darkness."

MTV reports her song sampled Radiohead’s “Codex."

On her Soundcloud account Willow reveals that she has made more music, but has ultimately decided to post this one first. “Hey, I have been making songs lately. I have alot more but this is one was just the one that I wanted to drop tonight. Enjoy ;)”

In the short time it has been online, “Sugar and Spice” has been well-received by fans. It has already received almost 8,000 views, 300 likes, and 59 re-posts.
