'The Wire' star Robert F. Chew dies at age 52

By Gavriella Tjandra,

Robert F. Chew, who was best known for his role as Proposition Joe in HBO's acclaimed The Wire, was found dead in his Baltimore apartment Thursday.

Baltimore's coroner said that the Baltimore-originated actor died because of cardiovascular disease, and quoted "morbid obesity" as the main contributing factor, TMZ reported.

Chew had little experiences before or after the TV series, which took place in Baltimore.

It, however, does not make people doubt his acting credibility - he taught and mentored children, teenagers, and young adult actors in Baltimore, The Baltimore Sun reported.

The Wire creator David Simon trusted Chew with his instinct so much that he included Chew's mentees to act in one of the episodes in season four as students.

Simon said, "Robert was not only an exceptional actor, he was an essential part of the film and theater community in Baltimore,

"He was a fine and generous man," Simon added.

Chew's costar Jamie Hector tweeted, "I didn't want to believe this #RIP Robert F Chew, Prop Joe will always be remembered Robert Chew will always be loved and missed!"
