Last night, the team with one of the worst records in the NBA, the Washington Wizards, defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team with one of the best records in the NBA, 101-99. Bradley Beal hit the game winner for the Wizards and was made into a hero, at least for one night.
The Wizards are without their franchise point guard John Wall, as well as a few other players like Jordan Crawford and Nene. Beal was very tired after playing the most minutes and spoke to his coach about a break. According to The Washington Post, Beal said in a post game interview, “Coach said, ‘If you think I’m taking you out, you’re crazy.’” After continuing to play, he hit the biggest shot of his career.
Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder felt like this game should’ve gone the other way. When asked about what happened, NewsOK reports that Durant said, “We weren't disciplined. We weren't solid on defense. We went stretches without moving the ball. You're playing against a team who's playing hard every game and got nothing to lose and you can be beat.”
Indeed, when you face a team with a record of 5-28, then you have to be on your A-game. They will be playing to win by any means necessary, so they can improve that poor record. The Thunder who have a record of 26-8, face the Minnesota Timberwolves next, while the Wizards face the Atlanta Hawks.
