A 12-year-old boy is being charged for allegedly calling police and reporting a fake emergency at the home of Two and a Half Men actor Ashton Kutcher’s home.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the boy, whose name is not being released since he is a minor, was charged with making false bomb threats and for other counts related to the prank, which has been nicknamed “swatting.”
The pranks earned the name because police will often rush SWAT teams to the location. However, by the time they arrive, they find that there is no emergency.
TMZ reports that the boy is also believed to have pulled a “swatting” prank on a bank in Los Angeles. He will be arraigned in juvenile court today and charged with felony counts of computer intrusion and making false bomb threats. .
Kutcher was just one of many celebrities who were victims of the prank. Cops were called to Miley Cyrus’ home over the summer, then Kutcher was pranked in October. Just days later, the same thing happened at Justin Bieber’s house.
In the Kutcher incident, the caller claimed that gunshots were heard inside the house. Kutcher was not home at the time.
