On Sunday morning, a 79-year-old man named James Jackson was shot and killed in Brooklyn, New York.
According to NBC, a call was made around 2:30 a.m. regarding Jackson. Police responded and they found him in his apartment in Bushwick with a gunshot wound to his neck.
The call had been made by Jackson’s significant other, who is blind. The Daily News claims she had been calling him from the bedroom. When he did not respond, she called a neighbor.
The neighbor, Joyce, refused to give her last name but recalls, “She said she couldn’t wake him up. He was lying on the couch slumped over. It’s horrible.”
Jackson was sent to Woodhull Hospital. When he arrived he was pronounced dead.
Police say there were no signs that anyone had broken into the apartment. They are considering the idea that he may have been a victim to a stray bullet.
Neighbors of Jackson are stunned that anyone would want to hurt him. “Why would anyone harm him?" says resident Vaughn Grandy. "It would take him 20 minutes to walk down the block.”
Police are still trying to find out who shot Jackson and no arrests have been made.
