Adam Sandler’s next project will likely be another romantic comedy that is currently untitled and in the works at Warner Bros.
Deadline reports that the film centers on ‘blended families’ and starts with a couple going on a terrible blind date. However, the two, who have children from previous marriages, end up spending much more time together than planned, finding themselves stuck in a resort for families.
The studio is looking at Drew Barrymore as a potential female lead, but they haven’t offered her a contract yet, notes Variety. Sandler and Barrymore have worked together in the past, having both starred in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.
The original script was written by Ivan Menchell and Claire Sera in 2007. Sandler’s Happy Gilmore will produce with Warner Bros. with Mike Karz. Josie Rosen will executive produce.
Sandler was supposed to make Ridiculous 6, a Western comedy set up at Paramount, next. That project will now be pushed back so he can make the Warner Bros. rom-com first.
Sandler’s last rom-com was 2011’s Just Go With It, which made $215 million worldwide. He lent his voice to Hotel Transylvania, a surprise hit last fall, and starred in That’s My Boy last summer.
