Adaptation of BBC soap will debut May 27, Milano tweets

Alyssa Milano’s British soap import Mistresses will premiere May 27, the Charmed actress tweeted today.

The series will air on ABC at 10/9c, following The Bachelorette.

Adapted from the BBC series of the same name, ABC’s drama series will feature four L.A. women (Milano, Lost’s Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes and Jes Macallan) and their love lives, secrets, lies and friendships, according to ABC’s synopsis. The cast also includes Jason George and Erik Stocklin.

So far, 13 episodes have been ordered for the series, according to TV Equals from a January press conference.

“I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next script to see what not only my character was doing, but all of the characters,” Milano said at the conference.

Despite a main theme being adultery, executive producer K.J. Steinberg also said viewers should expect an optimistic tone.

“There’s also an optimism to the show that was really important to us. The friendships binding these women are really they’re uplifting. They’re relatable. They’re enjoyable,” she said. “We are willing to go anywhere because I think that that’s what’s exciting about it and that’s what makes it dramatic and that’s what makes you lean forward.”
