It has not been a friendly round of network shakeups recently for anchor and talk show host Anderson Cooper. Reports surfaced Monday that CNN will slash the 10 pm re-airing of Cooper’s 8 pm nightly news program, Anderson Cooper 360.
Another announcement was made recently that Cooper’s daytime talk show, Anderson Live, will be cancelled this year and will not return for a third season. The show was syndicated by Telepictures, which produces several other talk shows under Warner Brothers.
According to a report by NBC/E! Online, the decision was made due to poor ratings performance. Now, reports indicate that Cooper’s other network is planning on cutting his airtime as well.
Sources inside CNN have told the Daily Mail that new CNN President Jeff Zucker, is looking to hire several new anchors in the weekday prime time slots for the network. Zucker was brought in this January after the news network suffered through one of its worst rating performances in its history last year.
Cooper probably won’t be the anchor most affected by the shakeup, however. According to the report, Erin Burnett will be removed from prime time altogether. Burnett, who anchors the time slot next to Cooper, Erin Burnett Out Front, will be made a co-anchor in a new CNN morning show. According to the sources, Burnett is not happy about Zucker’s plan.
