Angelina Jolie is recruiting the help of veteran film makers Ethan and Joel Coen on the upcoming film Unbroken about World War II hero Lou Zamperini, for Universal Studios.
SlashFilm.com reports the Coen brothers will rewrite Unbroken. This film will be based on Laura Hillenbrand’s novel. Universal Studios tried to bring Zamperini’s story to the silver screen for decades.
Zamperini has a remarkable story. He participated in the 1936 Olympics and was part of the US Air Force during WWII. When his plane crashes in the Pacific, he washes up on the shore of a Japanese island where he is held captive and tortured for two years.
The film project was initially intended to be directed by Francis Lawrence but he abandoned the project. Jolie was hired to direct in December of last year. She chose the Coens to pin the script because of their experience and talent according toThe Hollywood Reporter.
The Coens won two Oscars in the writing category and were nominated five times in the past. The film will start production this year.
