Another Win for ‘Argo,’ winning UK regional film critics’ award

By Xingye Li,

Ben Affleck is busy taking awards and saying “Thank You.” Recently, Oscar-nominated Argo has been voted film of the year by the UK’s regional film critics’ award.

Screendaily reported that this is Argo’s first major UK prize. Affleck said in a statement, “We thank the UK regional film critics on behalf of all the cast and production team for voting Argo Film of the Year in the Richard Attenborough critics’ awards.”

The Richard Attenborough UK Regional Film Awards (RAFAs), now in their sixth year, have 13 categories. Six of them are voted by regional-based journalists and critics throughout the UK, and seven of them are voted by public.

BBC reported, the 23rd Bond Film Skyfall was honored with two awards - director of the year for Sam Mendes and rising star for Ben Whishaw.

The best British performance, voted by public, goes to Robert Pattinson in the final Twilight franchise.

British black comedy thriller Sightseers was named best screenplay. Screenwriter and actor Steve Oram regarded it as “a real honor” and said it “won’t be forgotten.”
