Krysten Ritter, who most recently starred in ABC’s Don’t Trust The B---- In Apt. 23, has quickly found work at another network, signing on to star in NBC’s Assistance.
The pilot is based on a play by Leslye Headland, the writer/director of Bachelorette which starred Kristen Dunst.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ritter will star in the lead role of Nora, an assistant who tries to get her life on track while working for a demanding boss.
The character is dedicated to her work and is apparently a big fan of Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, who has inspired her interest in filmmaking. The role of the boss, Daniel Weisinger, hasn’t been cast yet.
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Owen Burke are producing with Universal TV. Headland has penned the pilot and will co-produce.
Ritter shared her excitement about working with Ferrell and NBC on Facebook. “Super stoked to go to work with the very talented @molotovcocktail [Headland] @GhostPanther [McKay] and Will Ferrell for Assistance” she wrote. “Mama is back in the saddle!”
ABC effectively cancelled Apt. 23 last month after shelving the remaining episodes. The low-rated, but critically acclaimed series co-starred James Van Der Beek and Dreama Walker.
Ritter has also appeared in Breaking Bad and 27 Dresses.
