Almost a year after Bear Grylls left Discovery, the British survival expert is returning to the company for a new unscripted series that will air in international markets.
Discovery Networks International confirmed today that Grylls will host Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors, a six-part series, according to Deadline.
It will air in 217 markets with the network, including throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. The series features Grylls recounting stories of amazing survival by ordinary people.
THe Hollywood Reporter notes that Grylls said he is “super excited” to work with the company again in a statement.
“Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors, and any future endeavors, will be intense—but that’s where the fun is!” Grylls said. “Man Vs. Wild took me to some of the toughest climates and terrains out there, and this new series is an exciting evolution of that. The aim is to follow incredible real-life survival stories and demonstrate dynamic life-saving know-how along the way.”
In March 2012, Discovery abruptly cut ties with Grylls, who starred in the hit Man Vs. Wild for the network. Discovery reportedly could not get Grylls to participate in new specials and cited a “contractual dispute.”
In October, he signed up to host a series for NBC that will air this summer.
