Last night was a special night for BET! Every year the network airs their special awards ceremony, BET Honors and Gabrielle Union was the host. The show pays tribute to five honorees for their accomplishments in various fields, contributions to society, and public service. It's BET's way of saying "thank you" for being selfless, jovial, and empathetic, and non-judgmental to the honorees. This year the network honored, Chaka Khan, Clarence Avant, Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry, Bishop T.D Jakes, and WNBA legend Lisa Leslie. These honorees received awards for public service, education, entrepreneurship, music, and athletics. The honorees' faces were full of astonishment, gratitude, and appreciation because it's an prestigious award to receive from BET.
During the ceremony, several artists performed for the honorees: Ledisi, Brandy, Kem, Alicia Keys, Mint Condition, and the SOS Band with music producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are know for making various hits for Usher, TLC, Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, and many more. Also, comedian and actor, Wayne Brady performed one of the Gap Band's greatest hits, "Outstanding," but with a comedic twist. Brady entertained the honorees as he mimicked their latest news in media. For example, he talked, Khan's weight loss, Berry's beauty, developing a business plan with Avant, being in T.D Jakes' new movie, and Leslie's height. His performance was appealing because he is truly a singer and entertainer.
In conclusion, the ceremony was a huge success but other celebrities were moved by the honorees' speeches. They realized success doesn't happen overnight, it's a journey that consist of hard work, dedication, and remaining humble. Celebrities were reminded the importance of helping others and giving back to your community as well.
If you missed last night's show, the encore presentation is on Wednesday at 10, only on BET.
