Chris Brown has opened up about his 2009 assault on current on-again girlfriend, Rihanna. The 23-year-old “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer calls it his “deepest regret.”
“Sometimes you fight with the one you love and things get said, stuff spirals,” he said, ABC News reports. “That night was the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake, but she loves me – what can I say? I’m forgiven … but, yes, I worked hard for it.”
Brown continued, he has grown up and matured since then. He and Rihanna continue to get criticized for rekindling their romance, but Brown doesn’t let it bother him anymore.
“People attack me and criticize me, it happens all the time,” he said. “But they don’t know me, and they don’t know us. It doesn’t bother me anymore. Other people can judge us but they don’t know anything.”
Rihanna recently confirmed in Rolling Stone that her relationship with Chris was back on.
"I decided it was more important for me to be happy," she said. "I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."
She added, she took him back because she could see that he changed. As a result, their relationship is different.
“We don't have those types of arguments anymore,” she assured. “We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that,” She added, “He’s not the monster everyone thinks. He’s a good person. He has a fantastic heart. He’s giving and loving. And he’s fun to be around. That’s what I love about him. He always makes me laugh.”
