New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman Monday night where the Republican governor poked fun at his weight by indulging in a doughnut. However, the governor notes that his weight issues aren’t all fun and games, that he is legitimately trying to lose the extra weight stating, “Sometimes I'm successful and other times I'm not.”
According to USA Today, Christie addressed weight concerns during his weekly news conference stating, “There's a plan. The idea that somehow I don't care about this — of course I care about it. I'm making the best effort I can, and sometimes I'm successful and other times I'm not, and sometimes periods of great success are followed by great periods of failure."
During his Monday night appearance, the politico explained that he doesn’t mind comedians poking fun at his weight so long as they are “funny” AMNY reports. In effort to get in on the joke, Christie grabbed a doughnut from his suit jacket and began to eat it.
"From my perspective, if the joke is funny, I laugh, even if it's about me," Christie explained. "I've never felt it's anything that really bugged me all that much."
Christie has since explained that his doctor has informed him he is in relatively good health outside of the weight, but that his “luck” will eventually “run out.”
