Chris Cooper to star in Discovery’s first scripted miniseries ‘Klondike’

By Daniel S Levine,

The Discovery Channel is following in The History Channel’s footsteps, creating its first scripted miniseries. Discovery has already tapped a talented lead actor for the series, Oscar-winner Chris Cooper.

The Muppets actor will star in Klondike, reports Variety. The project, which was first announced last year, will feature Cooper as Father Judge. It will be produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, Entertainment One TV, Discovery and Nomadic Pictures. Executive Producers include writer Paul Scheuring (Prison Break), David W. Zucker, John Morayniss, Michael Rosenberg and Scott.

According to Deadline, Klondike is based on Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich In The Klondike, written by Charlotte Gray. The novel features six strangers working together to survive in a small, isolated Klondike town.

Production will start next month in Alberta, Canada.

This is the first scripted miniseries for Discovery. This follows the huge success A&E’s History had with the Hatfields & McCoys last year. Klondike will also fit right in with Discovery's unscripted programs like The Gold Rush.

Cooper starred in American Beauty and won an Oscar for Adaptation. He is also in the upcoming Robert Redford film The Company You Keep and appeared in 2011’s The Muppets.
