Marvel is calling upon Chris Pratt to lead Guardians of the Galaxy.
According to Deadline, Pratt will take on the role of Star-Lord, a leader of the Guardian whose father is from another planet and mother is human. Star Lord’s original alias is Peter Quill.
Quill will endure a space mission in which he is chosen by the Master of the Sun to take on the role of “Star Lord” in order to lead and protect the galaxy, MTV reports.
Pratt’s character will be joined by the likes of Drax the Destroyer, warrior-woman Gamora, tree-creature Groot as well as Rocket Raccoon.
Pratt beat out the likes of The Dark Knight Rises actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lee Pace and Joel Edgerton, who Pratt costarred with in Zero Dark Thirty.
Deadline notes that Guardians of the Galaxy first became popular as a comic in 1969 and later got its own series in the 1990s. Thus far, details are limited regarding the project, but the film will be helmed by James Gunn and the screenplay written by Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman.
The film is slated for a 2014 release.
