Chrysler recalls 278,222 pickups

On Thursday, Chrysler reported that they are recalling 278,000 pickup trucks and SUVs due to safety concerns about the rear axles locking up unexpectedly.

According to The Associated Press, the recall includes Ram 1500 pickups from the 2009 through 2012 models, as well as Dodge Dakota pickup trucks from the 2009 through 2011 models. Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs are also included in the recall from the 2009 model.

According to The New York Times, there has been 15 different accidents related to rear issues. Chrysler plans to not charge customers for maintenance repair to resolve the problems. According to Inquisitr.com, Chrysler dealerships will be required to install a retainer in the every vehicle that secures the axle’s fastener.

Chrysler will notify each customer if their vehicle is affected by this issue. The Chrysler recall is expected to begin early March 2013.
