Demi Lovato has spent the last year living the single life. Instead of worrying about a relationship, Demi decided to focus on herself and continue her recovery.
According to E! Online, she opened up about her decision to stay single in the new issue of Cosmo on Campus magazine, a British magazine.
She admits she used to devote all her time to guys because, along with trying to distract herself, “I was so afraid of being alone.” She says as a result, it took its toll on the relationships that truly mattered like family and close friends.
Her decision to stay single was something that helped her personally and professionally.
“I have spent the last year focusing on myself and it's been incredible," she is quoted as saying. “More has come out of the past year than in my entire career so far, and I truly believe it was because I was taking care of myself and not focusing on guys.”
Not dating anyone during that time also changed her attitude when it comes to guys. Now, while her recovery continues, after a year, she’s now in a place where she can get back out there and date.
“Now I'm in a place where I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous,” she said, adding that any guy who would want to date her has to accept a few things about her.
“I’m a southern Texas girl. I have a really strong personality I speak my mind and I don't hold back,” she added. “I'm the type of woman who doesn't put up with bull----, so when I date I have to find someone who won't either. I don't think any woman should ever hold back what she's really thinking.”
