It is a bit of a stretch, but Hollywood has never been opposed to superstition.
We reported earlier, Britney Spears debuted a fresh new hairstyle on Sunday during Elton John's post-Oscars party. The "Scream & Shout" singer showed off brand new brunette locks and donned a slinky black dress during the star-studded event. However, the look could mean more than just a physical reinvention for Spears. It could possibly reveal a fantastic new album is on the way.
Buzz Feed noted an interesting parallel between Spears's ever-changing hair colors, relationship statuses, and critical reception of her albums. And, after further research, they are not completely off base.
According to Buzz Feed, whenever Spears dyes her hair darker and newly becomes single, she is inspired to create brilliant music. These changes result in her most critically lauded works.
And they are right. When Spears broke up with Justin Timberlake in 2002, followed by chopping and dying her hair a darker hue, she released her fourth studio album In the Zone in 2003. Zone is still one of Spears's most critically praised CDs, with even hard-to-please Rolling Stone magazine giving it 3/5 stars. Also, Zone is the only album to garner Spears a Grammy award. In 2005, she took home Best Dance Recording for "Toxic."
Spears struck music gold again in 2007. Although a year of personal meltdown for the pop singer, it was a year of musical masterpiece. Spears divorced Kevin Federline in Nov. 2006 and spent much of 2007 drastically changing her hair color. In October of that year she released Blackout, which churned out hit singles "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me." The Times named it the fifth best pop album of the decade (2000-2010) and it is Spears's only work to be added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame library and archives.
With Spears's breakup with Jason Trawick in December and her freshly-colored locks, it appears she is beginning the formula to release another groundbreaking album.
However, is all of this coincidence or is there some supernatural "pop magic" at work here? We will have to wait until Spears releases her eighth studio album later this year to see!
