Former ‘Criminal Minds’ star Paget Brewster joins ABC comedy pilot ‘Spy’

By Daniel S Levine,

Paget Brewster is following her dream of starring in a comedy series. The former Criminal Minds star has joined Spy, a comedy pilot in the works at ABC.

According to Deadline, Spy is based on a U.K. series and will co-star former Daily Show correspondent and Childrens Hospital star Rob Corddry. Mason Cook also stars as Corddry’s son.

Corddry is set to star as a new member of the Secret Service. He joins just to impress his son (Cook), whose personality is the complete opposite of his. His ex-wife Erica (Brewster), is a cold-hearted woman who has seen too many therapists. Simeon Goulden, who created the original series, also wrote the pilot for the ABC version.

Brewster left Criminal Minds following the show’s seventh season. She had tried to leave following the sixth season when her role as Evelyn Prentiss was marginalized and starred in an NBC pilot that wasn’t picked up. She then returned to the show for one more season before ultimately deciding not to come back again.

Before work on Spy gets underway, Brewster will make a guest appearance on ABC’s Modern Family, notes TV Line. She will play the new girlfriend of Manny’s father. There’s certainly no better way to test your comedy chops than guest starring on one of the most acclaimed comedies on TV.
