Gloria and Emilio Estefan inspiration for Broadway musical

By Sarah McClanahan,

A Broadway musical is in the early stages of development that centers on the Estefan family’s life story.

To this day, Gloria Estefan remains one of the most successful Latin crossover artists. She fled from Cuba with her family as a baby, and met her future husband Emilio in Florida where she sang lead vocals for their newly formed band, Miami Sound Machine reports Reuters. The two have been married since 1978.

Estefan’s accolades include seven Grammy awards, over 100 million albums sold worldwide, and widely acclaimed singles like “Conga,” “The Rhythm is Going to Get You” and “1,2,3.”

Recently, The Nederlander Organization has teamed up with Gloria and Emilio Estefan for a Broadway show.

The musical will focus on the Estefans’ life story, from meager beginnings in Cuba to the top of music charts worldwide.

Jimmy Nederlander, president of the Nederlander Organization, is ecstatic about the upcoming partnership.

“I am thrilled to collaborate with Gloria and Emilio to see their amazing story come to fruition on the Broadway stage,” Nederlander said. “The Estefans’ journey of success, led by raw talent and passion, is captivating as it drove them from relative obscurity to global sensations.”

The feeling is mutual as evidenced by Gloria and Emilio’s positive remarks.

"Sharing our life story through music will give us a new opportunity to honor our roots and, hopefully, to be able to inspire generations to come," the couple commented.

Additionally, they believe in rough times, people seek hope. Their story will give the public just that sentiment because it embodies the American dream.

Gloria Estefan took to Twitter to announce the news, but soon realized it had already been broadcasted!

The entire creative team, including the director, has yet to be announced.
