The alternative duo Gotye made a splash at the Grammys this year, taking home three gramophones including an award for Record of the Year.
Gotye and Kimbra won Record of the Year for their hit “Somebody that I Used to Know.” The single was a global phenomenon, achieving six times platinum status in the U.S. for 6 million copies sold. The artists also won for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
During his acceptance speech for Record of the Year, the Australian-Belgian artist said, “To all musicians, and all people who listen to music: cheers.”
He also said, "We recorded it mostly in a barn on my dad’s block of land southest of Melbourne, Australia."
During the ceremony, GotyeHQ, Gotye’s official news Twitter account, tweeted, “JUST WON RECORD OF THE YEAR.”
Gotye won a third Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album for Making Mirrors during the pre-telecast version of the show earlier on Sunday.
During the ceremony, Kimbra tweeted, “What just happened?! Jzkcksljckxjckvjx.”
