Chris Christie showed that he’s a good sport and has a great sense of humor while on Late Show with David Letterman on Monday night.
Christie took Letterman’s former jokes about his weight in stride, reading off some of them, and even eating a donut on the couch as he sat next to the later night host.
He took out a donut and as he ate it, joked "I didn't know this was going to be this long,"CNN reports.
The New Jersey governor told Letterman of his fat jokes, "I only care if you're funny. From my perspective, if the joke is funny, I laugh. If it's not funny, I don't laugh. But I've never felt like it was anything that bugged me all that much."
Fox News reports that Christie even told Letterman his jokes about his weight were "some of my personal favorites.”
All jokes aside, Christie has been a target of weight discussion in the media. He maintains that his cholesterol and blood sugar are normal, quipping "I'm basically the healthiest fat guy you've ever seen in your life.”
As one of 2012’s Most Fascinating People of the Year, he told Barbara Walters it was “ridiculous” that he would not be able to become president on account of his weight.
“I've done this job pretty well, and I think people watched me for the last number of weeks in Hurricane Sandy doing 18 hour days and getting right back up the next day and still being just as effective in the job, so I don't really think that would be a problem," he said at the time.
