The Grammy Awards experience a drop in ratings

By Briana Luca,
Last year's record breaking telecast was no match for this year's 55th Annual Grammy Awards

Even though the Grammy Awards were a star studded event this year with everyone from Jay Z and Beyonce to Kelly Clarkson, it didn’t do so well in numbers.

It was expected with such major names and performances attached to this year’s awards including a tribute to Bob Marley, and nonetheless, Justin Timberlake’s return to the stage, that the numbers would be huge.

Reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this 55th Annual Grammy Awards telecast was down in ratings from last year’s show.

The 2012 Grammy Awards had a record breaking 40 million viewers, most likely due to the tribute to Whitney Houston that occurred. That made it the most watched telecast since 1984.

Despite being down from last year’s show, this year’s show hosted by LL Cool J gained a massive 28.37 million viewers, which is the second largest audience since 1993.

The show had its second best 18-24 demographic with a 10.1 rating this year.

According to E! Online, the ratings between this year and last year’s Grammy Awards were a whopping 30 percent drop.
