Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong opens up about addiction with Rolling Stone magazine

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong has opened up about his addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs following a stint in rehab after a very public outburst at last year’s iHeartRadio Festival.

“I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night," Armstrong confesses in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout.”

Armstrong’s name was splashed across the headlines after his set was cut short during the star-studded Las Vegas event. The alternative rocker smashed his guitar and screamed out, “I’m not f**king Justin Bieber!” The singer admits that’s when he realized that things were bad.

"I remember tiny things…The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, "How bad was it?" She said, "It's bad." I called my manager. He said, "You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately."

After leaving rehab, the band announced their intentions to tour in 2013. The band also announced a series of club dates which will take place before they begin their tour.

Armstrong’s interview will be featured in the new issue of Rolling Stone which hits stands Friday.
