Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong opens up about past drug and alcohol abuse, iHeartRadio music festival incident

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has opened up about his past drug and alcohol abuse since completing a stint in rehab that cancelled many of the band’s tour dates.

Last September, Armstrong had a meltdown on stage at the iHeartRadio music festival, which urged him to get help.

He is now opening up to Rolling Stone about his past life, saying "I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night. I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout."

About the incident in Las Vegas, during which he smashed a guitar and screamed profanities - including "I'm not f**king Justin Bieber, you motherf**kers” - he said he barely remembers.

"I remember tiny things. The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately,'" he revealed.

Green Day has since announced new tour dates for this spring.
