Ellen Page turns 26 today!
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, Ellen Philpotts-Page grew up in family without any acting background.
Her background, however, did not stop her from performing her acting talents.
She began acting at the age of four in numerous school plays, and debuted her on-screen appearance at the age of ten for CBC's Pit Pony.
This led Page's career to develop.
She appeared in small Canadian movies and TV series, such as Trailer Park Boys, Mouth to Mouth, and played Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat), in X-Men: The Last Stand.
The Canadian actress then appeared in Hard Candy, and gained various compliments. Her work in the movie was called one of the most disturbing, haunting, and complex performances of the year.
One of her most notable performances was Juno. Her performance there was critically acclaimed, therefore skyrocketing her to fame. She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in this film.
Although she lost her Oscar to Marion Cotillard, Page still garnered several other awards, such as the Canadian Comedy Award, Satellite Award, and Independent Spirit Award.
After an Oscar-nominated performance in Juno, she acted in Smart People, a movie that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Page's film credits included Heath Ledger's directorial debut The Queen's Gambit, An American Crime, Peacock, and Woody Allen's movie To Rome with Love.
Other than acting, she was one of the celebrities who participated in an online advertisement series for U.S. campaign for Burma, campaigning to end the military dictatorship in Myanmar.
She has two dogs, Sprout and Julie.
