Joseph Gordon-Levitt turns 32 today!
Born in Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt grew up in a family of media practitioners and politicians.
His father was a news director for a radio station, and his mom once ran for the US Congress back in 1970. Her maternal grandfather was a filmmaker, best known for his work in Pillow Talk.
Having a media background, Gordon-Levitt debuted his acting talent at the age of four in a musical play of The Wizard of Oz as the Scarecrow.
He was then approached by agents and began doing TV commercials.
The American actor's early work included TV series Dark Shadows, San Fransisco Chronicle, modern Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew adaptation entitled 10 Things I Hate about You, and many more.
He then dropped acting to concentrate on his education, but in 2004, he continued acting.
From that point of time, he acted in more movies, and was critically acclaimed.
For instance, he was described "surprisingly formidable, and formidably surprising, leading man" by a film critic from The Philadelphia Inquirer, for his role in The Lookout.
He was also praised for his performance in (500) Days of Summer. It was described as the real key that made the movie work. For this role, he was nominated for Golden Globe Awards.
Gordon-Levitt then appeared in more movies, such as Loopers, The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln, and Sin City: A Dame to Kill for.
Expanding his love for movies, American-actor also directed short films. His directorial debut was a 24-minute long Sparks, which was selected to be screened in Sundance Film Festival.
He is also known as the founder of online production company hitRECord.
