Rihanna turns 25 today!
Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born in Saint Michael, Barbados, to a family without a musical background.
Her mother was an accountant, and her father was a warehouse supervisor.
She began singing at the age of seven.
Her career began through an association with American record producers Carl Stuken and Evan Rogers.
Rihanna sang "Emotion," and "Hero" for Rogers, which impressed him, and he took her to New York to record demo tapes.
It was then sent to the president of CEO of Def Jam Recordings, rapper Jay-Z, who then helped most of Rihanna's career development.
She debuted her mainstream single, "Pon De Replay," which was released in 2005, and charted highly across worldwide. It peaked in the second place in US Billboard Hot 100, and UK Singles Chart. Her album, Music of the Sun, was released months later and sold for two millions copies worldwide.
Her second album, A Girl Like Me, peaked in the fifth place in the US, and the single "SOS" peaked at the first place in Hot 100. A single from her third album Good Girl Gone Bad, "Umbrella" was nominated for a Grammy, and the album itself received nine nominations. She then produced her fourth album, Rated R, then Loud, Talk That Talk, and Unapologetic. Some of the songs in the albums, such as "Russian Roulette," "Rude Boy," and "Diamonds" were charted high in Billboard Hot 100.
Rihanna so far has received seven Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, eighteen Billboard Music Awards, and two BRIT Awards. Her label, Def Jam Recordings, even gave her an award for selling 25 millions records worldwide and 75 million singles.
She collaborated with personal stylist Adam Selman to create British street fashion brand River Island.
