The International House of Pancakes, better known as IHOP, is celebrating International Pancake Day today by serving free pancakes to its customers. While it does raise the restaurant’s profile for a day, it is all for charity.
According to ABC News, it is the eighth year that the chain is celebrating the holiday. Customers will receive free pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today. By getting customers into the restaurants, IHOP hopes to raise $3 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and other charities. The company says that 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the charities.
The Los Angeles Times reports that IHOP has raised $10 million over eight years of hosting the holiday. Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan will make an appearance at a Hollywood location, flipping and serving pancakes herself.
International Pancake Day is celebrated on “Fat Tuesday,” the final day before Lent. IHOP says that for centuries, people have been rushing to use up their dairy products on the days before Lent.
If you can’t make it to an IHOP today, you can still make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals here.
