'Iron Man' franchise learning from the past

By Steven Mitchell,

Iron Man 3 will not be making the same mistakes Iron Man 2 did, says star Robert Downey Jr.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly RDJ, who plays Tony Stark, reveals that the production of Iron Man 2 was just crazy. Parts of the movie were added spontaneously and the script was a continuous process.

“Jon and I were still kind of recovering from our lives changing so much [with the success of the first Iron Man] and then next thing we were back in the saddle again,” RDJ said about the production of Iron Man 2. “We made do.”

This time around the studio has a new director in Shane Black. RDJ feels that this time the movie idea was more planned out and safer.

“His story is so poetic and inherently entertaining and then thought out and rethought out,” said RDJ. “And then everyone all the way through really put their nose to the grindstone this time and I really felt like we were in a much safer playground [than we were with Iron Man 2] just because it was Shane’s vision."

I’m sure RDJ is in no way calling the first two Iron Man films mistakes or busts. Iron Man practically turned his career around. Both films were blockbusters at the box office. According to IMDB both Iron Man and Iron Man 2 each grossed over $300 million in the USA.

Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3 release. It stars RDJ, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Don Cheadle.
