The stars of ABC’s cancelled Don’t Trust The B--- In Apt. 23 continue to find work. James Van Der Beek, who played an exaggerated version of himself on the series, has been cast in a new CBS pilot titled Friends with Better Lives.

According to Deadline, Van Der Beek was cast as Will, a member of a group of friends who think everyone else has a better life than they do. Will is a gynecologist who finds out that his ex-wife is cheating on him. So, he now expects the worst from everyone.

The project was created by Dana Klein and will be directed by James Burrows. It will be in the multi-camera format with 20th Century Fox TV and Kaplan Entertainment producing.

The former Dawson’s Creek star got into comedy after doing Funny Or Die.com videos. That lead to his Apt. 23 gig. He’s also going to star in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day.

Van Der Beek’s casting comes after his Apt. 23 co-star Krysten Ritter was cast in an NBC pilot titled Assistance.

In other CBS casting news, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Margo Martindale (Justified, New Girl) has been cast as Will Arnett’s mom in Greg Garcia’s untitled pilot.
