AMC has taken viewers to the 1960s with Mad Men and the 1800s with Hell on Wheels. Now, the network will take audiences back to the Revolutionary War with Turn, a pilot that will star Jamie Bell.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Adventures of Tintin actor is set to star as a cabbage farmer in 1778. He and his friends form the Culper Ring, a group of spies who help the Americans eventually win the war and independence. During the pilot, he will get caught selling cabbage illegally, which leads him to spying.
TV Line reports that Meegan Warner will play Bell’s character’s wife. Daniel Henshall also joined the cast last week. Both Warner and Henshall are Australian TV actors.
Bell is best known for his film roles, including Billy Elliot, Jumper, Nicholas Nickleby and Jane Eyre. He voiced Tintin in Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin.
Turn is based on Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring by Alexander Rose. Nikita’s Craig Silverstein co-wrote the pilot. It was one of several pilots AMC ordered in November as part of a new block of programming that will also include unscripted shows. The other drama announced at the time is titled Halt & Catch Fire.
