Jennifer Hudson to sing with Sandy Hook chorus at Super Bowl

By Christopher Rosa,

Jennifer Hudson will perform “America the Beautiful” with the Sandy Hook Elementary School chorus before the Super Bowl game on Sunday.

In December, Sandy Hook Elementary School was the site of a brutal school shooting, killing 20 children.

The Associated Press reports the singer will join the Sandy Hook chorus and the performance will be a part of CBS’s pre-game show. Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem.

USA Today reports the NFL invited the Sandy Hook chorus to sing in New Orleans, and they previously had them sing during the Week 17 game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.

“It was a time where I just wanted to be a positive voice, a positive light in a time where it can be very negative. It was a good time,” Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said.

A group of Sandy Hook students also recorded a version of “Over the Rainbow” with singer Ingrid Michaelson. The proceeds will go to Newtown Youth Academy and the United Way of Western Connecticut.
