Jennifer Love Hewitt credits working out with saving her life

Jennifer Love Hewitt appears on the cover of Shape magazine, showing off her bikini body after years of criticism from the media over her weight.

The 33-year-old The Client List star explained that it was honor for her to be asked to be on the cover in such little clothing, because usually Hollywood careers are winding down at her age.

"I'm getting ready to turn 34, so it's a very big deal to be asked to be on the cover in a bikini," she explained, USA Today reports. "I feel like in Hollywood sometimes when you're an actress and you're 34, it's like, you should just pack your bags."

But Hewitt reveals that it’s her fans that keep her motivated to stay in shape, and reading their tweets makes her want to stay on top of it.

"I know they're counting on me to feel powerful,” she said.

In 2007, she wasn’t met with the kindest words about her bikini body when some unflattering pictures surfaced and she had to defend her size 2 frame.

“A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be,” she said at the time. “And being a size 0 doesn’t make you beautiful.”

She also proclaimed that working out and leading a healthy lifestyle saved her life, The Huffington Post reports. Her mother passed away last June.

“When life hits you so hard -- whether someone you care for dies or your lover leaves you -- working out can save your life. It certainly saved mine," she said.
