Three months after petitioning the court to change his name, Jermaine Jackson has successfully earned the right to change his last name from Jackson to Jacksun.
According to TMZ, the L.A. County Superior Court judge granted the singer's petition to legally spell his name with a “U” rather than an “O.”
When Jacksun formally petitioned the court for a name change in November, he cited his desire as “artistic reasons.” He would divulge how the “U” over the “O” would benefit him.
At the time, Steve Dennis, a close friend of the singer, explained to New York Daily News, “Phonetically, it changes nothing. It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine.”
His wife expressed that she "supports" his decision to change the spelling of his last name.
TMZ notes following the approval, the newly dubbed Jacksun is off to perform with his brothers, the Jacksons, in Europe.
