Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence might be up against each other at the Oscars, but the two stars do not hate each other. Chastain herself took to Facebook to dispel the rumors that there is bad blood between the two rising stars.
“Jessica can’t stand the fact that Jennifer is stealing her thunder!” a source was quoted as saying. “What’s more, the critics have been gushing over Jennifer’s awards show speeches and it’s been killing Jessica!”
The source claimed that Chastain was “seething” inside when Lawrence won the SAG Award. Lawrence’s Saturday Night Live monologue also angered Chastain, according to the site.
However, in a post on Facebook Sunday, the Zero Dark Thirty star said that there is no feud.
“I find it very sad that media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry,” Chastain wrote, adding that it annoys her that people are always asking about “fighting on set” when it comes to The Help.
“I think all of the actresses recognized this year have given incredible performances,” Chastain continued. “But more important, they've all shown themselves to be filled with generosity and kindness. I've done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent. I've told her how beautiful her film work is.”
Chastain added that she always cheers when another woman’s work is recognized. “With support and encouragement, we help to inspire this industry to create opportunities for women. And as we all know: a great year for women in film, is just a great year for film,” she added.
Chastain and Lawrence, who starred in Silver Linings Playbook, are considered favorites for the Oscar for Best Actress. Their competition includes Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) and Naomi Watts (The Impossible).
