Taylor Swift famously called John Mayer out in her song “Dear John,” and now the singer is doing some calling out of his own, stating that in previous interviews he was a “jerk.”
According to N.Y. Daily News, Mayer sat down with CBS Sunday Morning's Charles Osgood and recalled the way he handled past interviews as well as his romantic relationships. Simply put, he stated, “I was just a jerk" - most notably when he called former girlfriend Jessica Simpson “sexual napalm.”
Daily News quoted Mayer in a previous interview with Playboy magazine, where he said, with regard to Simpson, “That girl, for me, is a drug. And drugs aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me … Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say.”
He also previously offered his opinion on which famous black woman he finds the most gorgeous. “I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.’ And Kerry Washington. She’s superhot, and she’s also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl.”
Mayer now explains that he has grown since those interviews and is more focused and not worried about what people think about him, People reports. “It’s very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you. I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction," said Mayer.
Mayer, who is currently dating pop artist Katy Perry, returned to work following a scary surgical procedure for a throat granuloma. He was forced to cancel his tour last March when the granuloma came back.
Mayer’s interview is slated to air Feb. 10.
