For a second year in a row, Kate Upton will be gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated’s annual Swimsuit issue. The news wasn’t supposed to break until Monday, but the cover leaked online early, so SI decided to reveal it as well.
TMZ reports that the cover, which shows Upton wearing only a bikini bottom and a coat in front of the Antarctic tundra, was leaked Friday. It features the headline “Polar Bare.” The site had also posted photos of Upton, 20, in Antarctica back in December.
With the cat already out of the bag, SI’s Swimsuit Facebook page also posted the cover image and announced who the rookie models will be that are featured in the issue.
According to E! News, David Letterman had booked the official reveal for Monday night’s episode. Nine models, plus Upton, are set to appear on the show.
Upton made her SI: Swimsuit debut in 2011 and appeared on the cover in an inset image. She was then promoted to featured cover model in 2012. The only other models to be featured on two covers are Tyra Banks, Paulina Porizkova, Elle MacPherson and Christie Brinkley.
Upton received a congratulations from 2010 cover model Brooklyn Decker on Twitter, writing, “Congratulations Ms.@kateupton !! Making history!”
Upton herself wrote “We can finally talk about Antarctica!!!!!....Took us 2 months to thaw out.”
