Kirstie Alley and Michael Richards’ TV Land pilot gets picked up straight to series

By Daniel S Levine,

TV Land is continuing its philosophy of gathering former sitcom stars for new sitcoms with Kirstie’s New Show with Kirstie Alley. The network has ordered the pilot to go straight to series.

Alley joined the pilot in October 2012, when it was called Giant Baby. Rhea Perlman, who co-starred with Alley in Cheers also joined the pilot at the time. In December, former Seinfeld star Michael Richards joined. Eric Petersen, who appeared in Broadway’s Shrek: The Musical, also stars.

According to a press release posted at TVByTheNumbers, TV Land ordered 12 episodes. It will premiere in the fall.

“This cast is a TV Land dream team of stars. Seeing them all together is truly mind-blowing,” TV Land President Larry W. Jones said in a statement. “This series pick-up reaffirms our commitment to making broadcast quality original programming for a network whose brand stands for timeless entertainment.”

Alley will star as Madison “Maddie” Banks, a famed Broadway performer who suddenly has to raise the son she gave up when he was born. Perlman plays her assistant, while Richards is her driver. Petersen will play Maddie’s son. Marco Pennette wrote the pilot.

TV Land’s other original programming includes Hot In Cleveland with Betty White and The Exes with Wayne Knight and Donald Faison.
