The son of former basketball legend Larry Bird was arrested in Indiana over the weekend for trying to hit his ex-girlfriend with his car following a wild argument between the two.
Connor Bird, a 21-year-old student at University of Indiana’s Bloomington campus, allegedly threw a cell phone at the girl, and then tried to run her over with his car twice, according to Trans World News. University police took Bird into custody Sunday morning at his Bloomington apartment.
Bird was discharged from jail after posting bail. TV Guide reported that he is looking at preliminary charges of battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon, as well as marijuana possessions. No formal charges have been made yet.
This is not the younger Bird’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested in 2011 for underage drinking and disorderly conduct, according to TMZ.
Bird’s lawyer called the arrest a “very private manner ” and “is thankful no one was seriously injured.” He hopes to resolve things as swiftly as possible.
