Mark Kamins, Madonna’s former flame and the man responsible for kickstarting her career, died at 57.
The Huffington Post reported that Kamins suffered a “massive coronary” in Mexico. He had experienced heart problems for several months prior to the incident.
DJ and Producer Mark Kamins is best known for discovering Madonna and helping her to launch her career. He presented Madonna’s demo to Seymour Stein from Sire Records, who signed her quickly and moved her upward to stardom. Kamins also produced Madonna’s single Everybody in 1982, which provided her first chance to appear in a dance magazine and has been performed live many times since its release.
Regarding this tragedy, Madonna issued a statement to Hollywood Reporter.
She wrote: “I’m very sorry to hear about Mark’s death. I haven’t seen him for years but if it weren’t for him, I might not have had a singing career. He was the first DJ to play my demos before I had a record deal. He believed in me before anyone else did. I owe him a lot. May he Rest in Peace.”
