Maggie Smith, who plays Lady Grantham on Downton Abbey, has never seen the series.
She confessed the baffling news to Steve Kroft of CBS’s 60 Minutes, according to the San Francisco Gate. The episode will appear this Sunday in time with the last episode of Downton Abbey Season 3, airing later in the evening on PBS.
Smith said she can’t believe the popularity of the drama, but she just hasn’t seen it. She feels she would critique her performance.
“Because it’s frustrating. I always see things I would do differently and think, ‘Oh, why in the name of God did I do that?” she said.
The 78-year-old actress has had quite a career, with two Oscar, three Emmys, and a Tony award win. She’s most recognized for her role of Professor McGonagle in the Harry Potter films.
Smith says she’s not sure what it means to be a star, and is more familiar to people now because of Downton’s success. She believes her age makes her a perfectionist, ABC News reports.
“I’m scary and I understand totally,” she said. “Old people are scary and I have to face it, I am old and I am scary and I am very sorry about it but I don’t know what you do.”
