Mariah Carey is lending her voice to Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, recording a track for the film’s soundtrack.
Billboard reports that the American Idol judge recorded “Almost Home” just for the film and is working on a music video to accompany the single. Director and photographer David LaChapelle will direct the video, which will feature clips from the film. LaChapelle is a long-time collaborator with Carey, having photographed several of her album covers. He also directed her “Loverboy” video for 2001’s Glitter.
Island Def Jam will release the track on Feb. 19. Disney and the label both plan to promote the track and video together.
‘Almost Home’ has a message that works beautifully with the film,” Carey said in a statement, reports Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a feel-good record; it gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love.”
“Almost Home” will likely be just the first of several new tracks from Carey her fans will hear this year. According to MTV News, she has been teasing a new album since last summer.
Oz: The Great And Powerful hits theaters on March 8. The film was directed by Sam Raimi and features James Franco in the title role. Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis also star. Danny Elfman wrote the film’s score.
