Mel B is replacing Sharon Osbourne in 'America's Got Talent'

By Gavriella Tjandra,

Former Spice Girls singer Mel B will sit in one of the judge panels in the next season of America's Got Talent, replacing Sharon Osbourne.

Mel B will be joining broadcaster Howard Stern and comedian Howie Mandel for the eighth series of NBC's reality talent search, as reported by Digital Spy.

Scary Spice has a series of judging experience. She was once a judge in the Australian X Factor, and a guest judge in the UK X Factor.

She joined ABC's Dancing with the Stars as a contestant, which led her to be the judge in the next season of America's Got Talent.

NBC president of alternative television Paul Telegdy told Entertainment Weekly, "I've known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars... to know her is to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. [She's] someone who has a very strong point of view."

Telegdy then said that the show needed someone who was able to fulfill all the qualifications of being a credible judge.

"We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She's an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her, and I can't wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie."

The pop singer, whose real name is Melanie Brown, is replacing Sharon Osbourne who decided to leave the show last year.

Her decision was mainly based on her son, Jack, who was fired from NBC because he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, E! News reported.

Osbourne said, "I just can't be fake. It's discrimination, and it was badly handled."
