Weeks after the death of her boyfriend, David Wilson, Mindy McCready has been admitted to a treatment facility to deal with alcohol and mental health issues.
In mid-January, we reported that David Wilson was found dead outside his Arkansas home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His girlfriend, country singer Mindy McCready, was mourning the loss of her “soul mate.”
According to E! Online, McCready flat out rejected any involvement in the case, which has not yet been deemed a suicide. While they had fights like normal couples, he was her other half, and this has been the most painful incident she has ever experienced. McCready already has plans to start a music scholarship fund where people can donate in Wilson’s memory.
Less than three weeks after the tragedy, in an emergency hearing, McCreary admitted to overindulging in alcohol to cope with her loss, reports People. The judge ordered her to be admitted to an in-patient treatment facility for up to 21 days to evaluate her mental health and overcome alcohol dependency.
McCready has been in and out of hospitals and rehabs since 2005 for suicide attempts and problems with alcohol and prescription drugs.
Her two children, six-year-old Zander and nine-month-old Zayne, have been removed from her home and placed in foster care.
While Zander’s father Billy McKnight is “devastated” about the recent events, he is trying to get custody of his son. Since his jailtime for assaulting McCready, he has turned his life around and remains sober. He believes it would be helpful for Zander to live with him in a stable home environment.
"I'm going to fight for my son," McKnight says. "I can't even talk to him and ask him how he's doing, because the Arkansas courts took Mindy's word that I was dangerous. It's time for me to fight for Zander's best interest. I want my son back."
