Country singer Mindy McCready’s death shocked her fans over the weekend. Officials have confirmed that her death was a suicide after a preliminary autopsy.
According to The Associated Press, the Cleburne County, Arkansas sheriff issued a statement that confirmed that McCready’s death was a suicide. She died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators also confirmed reports that she had shot her dog before committing suicide. The dog’s body was found on the same porch where her boyfriend, David Wilson, died of an apparent suicide. Wilson’s death is still under investigation as a suicide.
E! News is also reporting that the singer didn’t leave a suicide note. However, Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss said that the investigation is not over.
McCready had a hit early in her career with Ten Thousand Angels, but never matched that success. She appeared on Celebrity Rehab in 2010, but continued to deal with addiction. Just before her death, the Department of Human Services took custody of her two young children.
McCready was 37-years-old.
