Miranda Cosgrove joins NBC pilot ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’

By Shay Trotter,

Miranda Cosgrove, the former star of Nickelodeon’s iCarly, is heading to NBC for a new pilot titled Girlfriend in a Coma.

Deadline reported that the single-camera comedy is written by Nurse Jackie‘s Liz Brixius. It focuses on a woman named Karen (played by Christina Ricci) who comes out of an almost two-decade coma and discovers she has a 17-year-old daughter.

Cosgrove has been cast as the role of Evie, the small-town daughter whose life takes an unexpected turn when her mother finally wakes up from her coma.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brixius, Dick Wolf, Danielle Gelber, and Peter Jankowski are set to be executive producers of the series, which is based on a book by Douglas Coupland.

Cosgrove, who can be heard in the summer sequel Despicable Me 2, spent four seasons on the show Drake & Josh before heading to iCarly for another seven. If NBC decides to pick up the new series, it would be the actress’ first regular role on a network show.
