Missouri man charged in deaths of two prostitutes

By Ricky Riley,

Derek Richardson, 27, was arrested Saturday for the deaths of two prostitutes near Kansas City over the course of a two year period.

According to CBS News, the Missouri man was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of corpse abandonment.

Tamara Sparks, 40, was found dead on October 4, 2011 and Nicolene Reed, 24, was found August 21, 2012, both found in Northeast Kansas City. A tipster gave the police a lead to the serial killer.

Kansas City Authorities found a size 11 Croc-brand canvas shoe near the site of the Sparks body.

The tip also led to identifying the shoe found.

"We absolutely stopped a person who was going to kill again," said Kansas City police Sgt. Doug Niemeier, adding that authorities will search across the United States to ensure there weren't other victims, the Associated Press reports.

Kansas City Authorities are still investigating the case because there are still a number of questions that need to be answered. Richardson has a bail set for $2 million.
